The singer, Tracyanne Campbell, is emulating another style of singing, I think. I'm not sure who does it, but it feels 80's rockish. Elevating this technique above her usual style gives the song a gentle romance.

But maybe it's just the unusually straightforward wurlitzer and the very American drumming.

I really hope this is what their next record sounds like, with more hot licks.
