Synchronicity and Once

I thought the author thing would strike me more often. I’ll go with the flow from now on.

I went and saw Once again tonight. Yes, yes, this movie is fantastic and you should see it. But it made me recall a line of thinking that I adopt every now and then.

The best way to feel good is to move. Somehow. This is why exercise is good, but spontaneous exercise is better. You get to move AND you haven’t already gotten all the benefits out of the way from endogenizing your expectation of getting to move (a la sports; though they also stimulate other pleasures).

The movie made me realize that another form of movement happens when we try to communicate with each other. When we do connect in speech or whatever, we move in harmony. Synchronicity. Like the catbus in My Neighbor Totoro: the real joy of the catbus is that you are riding in it with someone else. You move together. I think that the catbus could serve as a good metaphor for speech.
