I was thinking about my friend Marie which for some odd reason led me to thinking about Hayao Miyazaki's film Porco Rosso. Why did I mention his name? He is well-liked yet still underrated. I think Marie has the character attributes of Gina.
Anyway. This film portrays a very narrow and very idealized window of Italian/Mediterranean history. Right before 1929, probably. But the characters in the film are cast (like metal) such that this narrowly interestingly story is universal. I don't believe this universality could come out of just any story. There is a confluence of situation traits here.
What interests me is how interested I could become in this very narrow window of history/geography. Potentially, I could go fly old biplanes around Santa Marina Salina. But the physical action isn't the thing that interests me. It's the community.
I sense that these sorts of communities spring up very rarely and very briefly. They are the community corrolary of geniuses. I wonder how I should feel about this. Should I go looking for one? Should I try to inspire one? Should I try to track past ones?
I'm not sure, but it seems very interesting.
