Semantics

I want to make a distinction between how we viscerally react to the words positive and negative and how they can be used in other senses. These are the two most powerful adjectives when describing actions taken/not taken.

They are at the same time brief and expansive, compact.

Positive - Positive describes anything that involves a reaction that is characterized by change, movement. Positive action is not in always good action, simply purposeful action. Positives are about dynamism.

As briefly as possible: Positive action is your attempt to change (the calculus of a situation).

Negative - The opposite of positive. Negative actions try to make sure nothing changes. A negative action is not a bad action, but simply an action that makes no move. Negatives are about stasis.

Seeing this distinction has changed the way I approach politics, philosophy, etc.

edit:
positive = change
negative = not change
