Rocket Science

I found myself liking Rocket Science quite a bit more than any of the Wes Anderson movies it seems to be based on (excepting [obviously] Rushmore). And this in spite of myself. Filled with meanness towards its characters and their meanness towards each other, it didn't make a strong case for itself.

But there was something about the story. Maybe not eternal, but certainly classic. I found... I like this story. I like it.

The third act made me like the movie (not just the story). The protagonist finds the hero. The hero rises above the pettiness that came before it. Here is a character whose confidence comes not from stepping on someone else, but instead from a personal, eternal surety. I was charmed.

It's interesting to see a story where the true hero is not the focus.
